
Biography
Don English is a twenty-eight-year educator who has served in various capacities with the San Bernardino County Office of Education. Don has served in the roles of Executive
Director, Director, Program Manager, Principal, Lead Teacher, Teacher, Grant
Administrator and Grant Writer. He has spent his entire career working with students from the Chaffey Joint Union High School District, Juvenile Court schools, and Community Schools (alternative education and special education
programs). Currently, he is a proud Board Trustee of the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.
Don has implemented extracurricular activities for those At-Promise students who no longer have the opportunity to participate in school-sponsored activities, sports, clubs, etc. which directly impacts chronic absenteeism. Dons’ leadership style is effective as demonstrated by his creation of a positive school climate, a culture of inclusivity, equity, and access, and promoting attendance for employees. Don has chaired numerous WASC teams and has been instrumental in schools utilizing and understanding the reflective process of
self-study. He continues to provide supervisors of attendance certification training, as mandated by education code 48240, throughout the state of California. Don has written and administered grants in excess of 2 million dollars in the Summer Youth Employment Training programs.
Don was recognized in 2022 as the Association of California School Administrators, education options, administrator of the year. In 1998 he was named NAACP national teacher of the year and in 1999 he was recognized as the San Bernardino County Teacher of the Year
for Alternative and Special Education. Don has presented at numerous national conferences serving
those At Promise youth who are most in need.
Don is currently a Doctoral candidate at The University of Southern California, Rossier School of Education. He holds a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University, San Bernardino. He also holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a multiple subject teaching credential, and an administrative services credential.
